Kumasi, Ghana

Kumasi, the second largest city in Ghana is also known as ‘‘The Garden City’’ because of its many beautiful species of flowers and plants. It’s a city in the Ashanti region of Ghana and the home of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Kumasi is the commercial, industrial and cultural capital of Asanteman located approximately 500 Km north of the Equator. Kumasi is estimated to have a population of 2,069,350 people.

The ancient capital of the Ashanti Kingdom is one of the wealthiest cities in Africa with vast deposits of gold in the area. Kumasi is also the home of the largest natural lake in Ghana, Lake Bosomtwi which lies to the southeast of the city. Tradition is held very high in Kumasi and blends very well with modernity. Places to visit in Kumasi may include the Manhyia Palace, the ancient fort Kumasi, Lake Bosomtwi, the Kumasi hat museum to mention a few.
